The AI changes.Your memory shouldn’t have to.

Every AI conversation starts from what the model knows right now. Mimir starts from what it has learned about you. At first, that isn’t much. Give it time. And what it learns stays under your key.

Just Me · 14 August

You

I feel like nothing’s changed since last year. ❤️

Mimir

A year ago this week you couldn’t sleep before the Tuesday meetings. Last month you ran one. Something’s changed — I think it’s just slower than you wanted.

What changes when an AIknows your history?

Any assistant can answer the question in front of it. The questions that matter usually reach further back. Mimir is for people who use AI to think, not just to get answers.

A decision

Should I quit my job?

Today’s answer depends on things you said months ago — what you wanted, what you were afraid of, what has quietly changed. Mimir can bring that back into the room.

A pattern

Why do I keep missing deadlines?

A fresh chat sees this deadline. Mimir has seen the last three, and can say what they had in common — and what was different the times it went well.

A goal

Why didn’t running stick last time?

Anyone can hand you a plan. Mimir can look at your past attempts and tell you what actually worked for you, when it stopped, and what else was true that week.

A project

Why did I decide to build this?

Task lists survive; reasons don’t. Mimir can recover what you were thinking when you chose this — usually what you need when deciding whether to keep going.

This is whattime gives an AI.

None of those answers come from a smarter model. They come from the same model, standing on more of your history. Time itself becomes an input.

Week 1

It knows nothing yet, and says so.

You

I don’t really know what I’d use this for.

Mimir

Then start with today. What took the most out of you?

Kept: nothing yet.

Month 3

It starts joining things up.

You

We argued about the same thing again.

Mimir

Second time this month, and both after a late shift. I’m starting to think it’s not really about the dishes — it might just be the hour.

Kept: the friction lands after late shifts, not on the thing being argued about.

Year 1

It knows the shape of your year.

You

I’m doing the deadline thing again, aren’t I. 😅

Mimir

You are. Third one now. Though for the record, the other two turned around the night you gave in and stopped early.

Kept: the pattern has held across three deadlines.

Year 5

It holds context no fresh start could rebuild.

You

Should I take the Osaka offer?

Mimir

Five years ago you turned down a move like this one, and you’ve written twice since then that your reasons stopped being true. The one thing that hasn’t moved is wanting to be nearer your mother. Osaka is nearer.

Kept: what has stayed true across five years, and what only looked true at the time.

Storing facts is easy.Seeing patterns takes time.

A memory feature can hold a fact: you struggle with deadlines. True, and not much help. A record with three deadlines in it can say what worked — the nights you stopped early, both times.

Running summary

Changed jobs in April. Settling in, but the weeks with late shifts take a lot out of them. Their mother has ongoing hospital appointments, so they travel home about once a month.

Facts it is keeping

  • Late shifts fall on Tuesday and Thursday
  • Mother’s appointments are in the second week
  • Before a deadline, stopping early works better than pushing
This memory is kept deliberately small — capped, rewritten as life moves on, and yours to delete. Your full history stays too, under your key. When a question needs it, Mimir searches it from your device — the servers can’t read your history, let alone search it. Example record — not a real account

Encrypted on your device.Except when you ask.

The more Mimir comes to know about your life, the more it matters who controls that history. Your messages, your photos and the record Mimir keeps about you are encrypted on your own device, with a key derived from your password, before any of it is stored. We hold no copy of that key.

An app that asks to hold years of your life owes you more than a promise. So your history is stored in a form we cannot simply open and read — a copy of our database is not a copy of your conversations. None of it is the model’s to keep, either: the model answering you will change, the way models always do. What you have built carries over.

And the exception, stated plainly

Asking Mimir sends that conversation out to be answered. Something has to read the words to reply to them, so the conversation goes out in readable form to a model provider, and the reply comes back encrypted like everything else. But answering a conversation is not the same as keeping your history: your record never moves in with the provider. It lives here, encrypted under your key.

That is the trade, and it is why you will not see us claim that nobody can ever read anything. Because the key comes from your password, forgetting it means nobody here can open your history for you — which is why you get a recovery code on the first day.

Your own room first.A shared one only if you want it.

You start alone, and alone is the whole product. If a partner joins later, Us opens as a separate room — not a window into the one you have been keeping. It has its own Mimir, built only from the life the two of you choose to put there.

You

I think I’m done for today.

Mimir

Then stop at the point you got to. It’ll still be there tomorrow.

You

Yeah, I’ll do that. Thanks. 🙌

Mimir

Happy to help. Sleep well.

Yours. Mimir gets to know the life you share here.

Maya

Running a bit late today, sorry.

Leo

No problem — I’ll keep dinner. Message me when you’re on the train.

Maya

Mimir, can you help us make Saturday feel less rushed?

Mimir

Yes. I’ll work from what you’ve shared here. Want me to start with the plans already in this room?

A thread for the two of you, with a Mimir of its own. It stays quiet unless you ask. When you do, it works only from what you share in Us — never from either person’s Just Me room.

For the occasional question, the half-made plan, the thing neither of you wants to lose track of.

Most of the thinking about a relationship happens when the other person isn’t in the room. That thinking has somewhere to go here — including the worry you have not found words for yet. Your own Mimir can see the shared room too, so you can start in the middle instead of explaining the background first.

You

I feel like we’re not really talking any more. I can’t say that to them yet.

Mimir

The last three weeks in Us have been mostly logistics — who’s home when. That may be less about talking less and more about what you’re talking about. You don’t have to raise it today; saying it once in here usually makes it easier to say out loud.

What you write here stays here. It does not appear in Us, and it does not appear on their screen. What crosses between the rooms is not the conversation — only the understanding.

The useful parttakes time to build.

You can’t download five years of context — you have to live them, one ordinary conversation at a time. Model upgrades arrive for everyone at once; your history is the part nobody can hand you.
